[Editor's note: Tenth night. Final story. Mack's questioning everything.]
Remember when I told you about the Outmarch? I think I brought it up a few times, and well, I didn't really tell you much about what happens there.
So essentially, you have Nuevo Bay. It's nine sectors, and that's just a fancy little corporate term they use for districts and shit. But anyway, Nuevo Bay proper is this area. That's where you are right now, sitting here at a bar, deep in the city, and you're experiencing all that Nuevo Bay has to offer.
But not everyone does that.
You got nomads and stuff out in the Outmarch. Think of it like country bumpkin-type shit. Well, not the whole time. They somehow have a more, I don't know, tribal nature to them. Is that okay to say? I don't remember. I'm not trying to think about what I should or shouldn't say right now. I've got five fucking Bloody Marys in my stomach and a lot of self-hate.
But yeah, essentially the corporations only really cared about the sectors. And even then, they didn't care that much about them. That's why you got blue lanes and analog district sections and whatnot. The city is half-finished. It's always half-finished. Just look at the Old Causeway.
And out in the Outmarch? Well, that's where the corporations won't bother you. If you really wanna have life, if you really wanna have a sense of community, they say you have to go out there.
I tell 'em: you fucking lying, dude. You can get community in here. I have friends. I have a vibe, you know? You can enjoy people in the city. But I guess, I don't know, a family bigger than just this? And you're not always choked by the system or whatever else, you know? That's what you're getting when you go out there.
Oh, and the air is actually clean. And the water? God, find a natural spring out there and it hits different, kind of energy, man. The grass is actually green.
But don't get me wrong. There's a downside to it, right? You're stuck. You don't get to enjoy the amazing quality-of-life stuff that we have here. You're always working. And honestly, you're stealing convoy and messing around with the corporations and shit, and you might just fucking die.
I mean, you can die here too. But it's a different kind of death over there. It's like the fight is different, you know? Here you're fighting for one thing. Over there, you're fighting for another. Either way, there's a real chance that you won't be waking up the next day if you do things wrong.
But yeah, I don't know, man. I'll think about that fantasy I told you about.
Maybe I should just stay in the city. Maybe I should get a new job or something.
Anyway, you got any pets? A partner? Anything that makes you wake up every day?
